I've just been looking on the Leigh website and i must say their new stadium looks outstanding. I just hope they can attract a few more people to help fill it. They seem to have high hopes for the future which is fine but i must say the way they have 're-branded' and thrown their history in the dustbin is a disgrace. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yes it is a disgrace. Leigh Genesis sounds more like a failed 1970's pop star than a football team. It's a shame when someone takes over a club with a proud history (in Leigh's case linked to local industry and having been a former Conference side not so long ago) and just because they throw money in they think they can use it as part of their own self grandisement Sorry for a moment there I forgot which club I was referring to

Their real history goes back to Horwich, they lost their soul when they moved to Leigh.

I only went to Horwich once. It was very run down but it was a very old fashioned and atmospheric too. It was to see a Rugby League match between Chorley and Doncaster many moons ago. It was still a shame the old place had to go though, we seem to be losing so many of these historical old places.

'appen RMI found the competition a bit too much when Bolton Wanderers moved to Horwich.

And 'appen Leigh thought Railway Mens Institute was an embarrassing name for a team from a town which hasn't got any trains

But Genesis is a silly name - although not as silly as Team Bath

For silliness you can't beat Milton Keynes Dons.
