| QUOTE (Denisov @ Aug 4 2008, 07:41 PM) | It has to be said that we get lousy coverage from the T&A. I don't expect the column inches that City get but i think they should recognise that we are , like it or not, Bradfords second club.
I was absolutely appalled at the coverage of our recent friendly with City. A stranger would not have guessed that the game was being played between two Bradford sides. These are teams who were once fierce rivals, and may well be again one day. No mention of the Avenue team, no picture of an Avenue player, and very little mentioned of a very creditable performance by our boys on the day. The game was good, but the reporting was diabolical.
Avenue made a bad mistake with the report of the Spanish tour. It was a little ambitious for the club to undertake at this stage, and probably fell through due to lack of available players. These guys have jobs, and families to consider. I believe that the directors have acknowledged their mistake, and apologised accordingly. Will the T&A apologise for their poor coverage of the derby friendly? I doubt it.
Our coverage in the T&A is very hit and miss. We usually get a decent write up on a Monday along with all the other non league clubs, but there is very little reported during the rest of the week. Even midweek matches are poorly covered, and often there is little mention of a game being played. We may be at fault by not providing them with stories and information, but the paper itself appears to show little interest in the Avenue.
Where we go from here i don't really know. As a club i think we need to keep the paper on our side and feed them with genuine stories. Hopefully, they will play their part and report them.
As a club we need to concentrate on reaching the next level of non league football. The T&A may not believe we are a force, but in a year or two they may have to sit up and take notice. Simon Parker may think City are light years ahead of the Avenue but in reality they aren't. Non league football is getting stronger year on year, and the lower reaches of the football league is fairly stagnant.
We have lost our friendly matches with Farsley and City, but we were not disgraced in either, and were worthy opponents. We are progressing nicely. If we keep it up we will be a match for our rivals from Manningham sooner than they think. The T&A will have no option but to report on us then.

How do you expect the T&A to react?, they fairly reported on your "tour" of Spain only to find out it was " a little joke" on Bobs behalf. If you lot believe that you must be lacking something up top, what your OWNERS complete load of lying bullshit did was embarrass your local newspaper as well as themselves and you as supporters, do you really expect them to take it lying down?. |
Red Cat, as a fellow Fc fan you should be ashamed of yourself with your farcicle postings and non-productive bile, ever subject you choose to add to has an hidden agenda, you my little friend give genuine FC Fans a bad name

I can assure you there is no hidden agenda, it's just gaulling that BPA fans can moan about a negative response from the T&A when the problem was started by the club.

You're obviously not an Avenue fan and really have very little to contribute to this debate.
We all acknowledge that it was wrong to post details of a Spanish tour on our website when it didn't really take place. The T&A decided to report it. I don't think we fed it to them. Maybe they should do a little bit of research next time.
Simon Parker though, has well and truly stuck the boot in. I'm sure he loved every minute of it.
It's a shame that the T&A found it necessary to publish such a one sided report of the recent friendly match between the sides which was a good game and a useful exercise for both clubs. You may not be interested yourself but there are plenty of people who have an affinity to Park Avenue and some of them are current day City fans. Sadly Simon Parker is too young and blinkered to know that.
Let's hope we have all learnt a lesson.
Looking forward to a little bit more exposure for the Avenue in our local daily. |
No!, you are right i am not, but you are missing the very thing that ties things together and that is trust, your club published to the T&A about the tour and as such they reported it, i.e they trusted them, they were let down so they/you cannot complain when there are ramifications , that is my only point .

Well, Kev, I'm not anti the club, you, Bob, or anyone else for that matter, but I've got to ask - what the hell are you playing at?
It is YOU who are keeping this whole thread alive with this stupid verbal ping-pong.
A little humility from you wouldn't go amiss, either. It is down to you that the club has received the most negative publicity in living memory. Just like Simon Parker, the publicity officer of Bradford City, I have yet to read an apology from you.
This should all have had a line drawn under it a week ago. It was monumental hubris that got the club into this mess, and given your own line of work wouldn't it just be best to follow the advice attributed to Denis Healey: When in a hole, stop digging.
I greatly admire what the current board has been doing to improve the club, and gates have been improved dramatically without much (any?) help from the newspaper, which proves it can be done.
But it might be for the best if board members (and their relatives) stopped posting here at all.
I know some people post things that are very provocative, but if you don't read it you're not going to be upset in the first place. |
Good posts Robert and Johnxl. The problem i think has been that the subject has been left to fester rather than a straight forward hands up apology to settle it once and for all, further misinformation fed to the media doesn't help either!
Only 11 days to the start of the season proper now and real tests for the newly assembled squad by teams at our own level. With the squad we now have and maybe a couple of additions as we move into the season, we should walk this league. We just need to remember that some of the teams we will come up against have been established for a while and are fully settled going into the new campaign.

Kev,
A very strange retort to someone who has simply shown the Simon Parker article for the benefit of the earlier writer who couldn't find it in the paper.
If you and Bob are feeling the bullets coming from every direction, can't you understand why ? It would be more sensible to show a little humility, rather than go on the attack , which you both seem to favour, rather than make a sensible comment - or as others have suggested, refrain from posting on a fans forum unless you have a club announcement to make.
To your credit, I think your efforts on the PR side improved the coverage in the T&A last season, but what a dammed shame the two of you should balls it up with that daft story.
If you and Bob do leave the forum to the fans, maybe your vitriolic friends will give it a rest too, and give your credibility a chance of recovering.

Do you know something! in a week or so I will be having a pint in the clubhouse and then standing on the terrace in my shirtsleeves watching the Avenue. And in a month or two I will be having a pint in the clubhouse and standing on the terrace in a wooly hat and a warm fleece watching the Avenue, and loving every minute of it.
As far as I am concerned, Simon Parker can take his article and shove it, then jump into Harold Park lake, along with all the people who make unneccesary, vulgar and provocative statements on this site, when others are trying to get some sensible and thought provoking threads going.
By the way, the majority of posts have been sensible and have addressed the issues, it just seems that certain individuals have an axe to grind and tend to pour scorn on others with vitriolic and unneccesary statements.

As a follower of all football in the Bradford district, I think the T&A gives good, balanced coverage of local football. All other pyramid clubs are featured each week as well as local leagues/cups.
Time to move on. Given a good league and / or cup run you will see that coverage of BPA will improve. Think about how good coverage was when the club reached the FA Cup 1st round and played Bristol City.
Also, mr Ackworth boy - not sure you can claim that BPA are the same club as the one that was in the football league. The team that graced the football league were registered with the FA as Bradford FC - the (Park Avenue) bit in brackets only being used in the press to differentiate them from City. The NEW club is registered as 'Bradford Park Avenue'.
Anyway -on another point, didn't BPA have a 'Pemberton'. in the side in the not too distant past ? Small lad. Seems to have turned up at Silsden and looked good in a pre-season game at Harrogate Railway (didn't prevent Silsden getting walloped however - in a similar way that BPA won easily at Cougar park last season ).

250 years of history
Friday, 19 October 2007.
Bradford Park Avenue v Sheffield FC
The FA Carlsberg Trophy
First Round Qualifying
3pm, Saturday 20 October 2007
Horsfall Stadium, Bradford Park Avenue FC.
Some 250 years worth of football history will collide in The FA Trophy on Saturday when Bradford Park Avenue, one of the original First Division Football League teams, take on Sheffield FC, the oldest club in the world.
Bradford, celebrating their centenary year, have been on red hot form this season, notching up the highest home and away scores in the Unibond First Division North with a 9-0 win at home against Rossendale United and a 5-0 scoreline on the road at Bridlington Town.
Sheffield, now celebrating 150 years, and recognised by FIFA as the oldest club in the world, have also had an impressive run. They have won seven out of their 10 fixtures to date and are third in the Unibond First Division South.
Ahead of the game, Bradford PA club secretary Steve Burnett is keen to emphasise how important history is to both of the clubs.
"There are still very strong links between the clubs, past and present, and lots of memorabilia in the club house,” he said.
“It is quite an occasion, and so should attract a good crowd."
Bradford are no strangers to successful cup runs, having also reached the Fourth Qualifying Round of The FA Cup this season and Burnett sees no reason why this form cannot be carried over into the Trophy.
He added: "We have reached a nice rich vein of goalscoring, despite not starting the season too well, and have scored 33 goals in our last six games."

Very well put, sir!
This takes the biscuit. Spain might keep getting brought up, but this "issue" was put to bed 20 years ago.
Just to reassure this new found group of non-Avenue supporting rabblerousers, the re-formed club has been considered the descendent of the former one not only by the F.A. (there is no greater authority in the game than them, anyway) but also by the ex-players association and all the club's former greats (Shackleton, Downie, Greenwood, Hector, Ham etc etc etc etc etc....... etc).
If it's good enough for them....
If you're going to use a club's nomenclature as a guide, Anorak, then: Manchester United cannot pass off the history of Newton Heath, Arsenal cannot include the history of Woolwich Arsenal.
Oh yes, and Bradford City Football Club Ltd has only been going since April 2006.

count me in as being part of that list of Avenue fans who actually saw Bradford (Park Avenue) play in the league. So for any doubters of whether i am a TRUE fan or not, think again, i've been around a lot longer than most and have seen the good times and the bad.
The post i put on from the T&A was in resonse to someone who asked how to find it, can't remember who exactly it was, but as i have said before - don't shoot the messenger.
If Kev or Bob cannot answer straight questions then so be it.

I have just returned from Manningham Mills, which will bring back fond memories to many of you, where Campion defeated Silsden in a pre-season friendly tonight.
As for Nepal. Without doubt, the two men at the top made a monumental cock-up, which has has repercussions / condemnation nationwide, but for the sake of the Club we must hope that the lesson's been learned and we should now let them get back to the business of pushing Avenue forward and upwards.
In many ways, IR has merely echoed the sentiments of a number of mature Avenueites, and shouldn't be vilified for being (as one of you said recently) like a dog with a bone.
So now it's time to "let sleeping dogs lie" (oh dear, that's not quite the right saying to use, but you know what I mean !)

I do not wish to keep anything going on and on as you put it, i merely wanted an answer to a question that has been raised by several fans other than myself.
My original question remained unanswered (sensibly) even though the person/people responsible for the whole episode continued to post on avenueonline with deflective subjects.

Seriously really good suggestion Farsley 2 ,Adam BUFC take note, although i am a massive fan of eddy grant, let's put that on the backburner and have viva e'spania before kick off failing that 'This Time We'll Get It Right" change ron's to Bob's and red white and blue to green white and green and it could work.
What about Spanish eyes when you score,( Al Martino)

I.R. count me in as been part of that list who saw us play in the league, and who has missed only a hnad full of games since we joined the pyramid of non league footy. I too have been around a lot longer than most. We all no what happened. We all no Bob and Kev where in the wrong. Why do you as a true suporter want to keep it going on and on and on. |
Think you're getting the wrong end of the stick Martin.
I do not wish to keep anything going on and on as you put it, i merely wanted an answer to a question that has been raised by several fans other than myself.
My original question remained unanswered (sensibly) even though the person/people responsible for the whole episode continued to post on avenueonline with deflective subjects.
I am obviusly not going to get an answer, so we'll wait and see how long it takes for the board to get an answer from the fans when they have their hand out for additional funds. I for one will not be parting with my proverbial "hard earned" to someone who has brought shame and national embarrassment upon a once glorious and proud club.
What anyone else does is entirely their perogative and makes no difference to me.
I will still continue as always to attend games and support the staff on the field regardless.
Rob.
Got to say Rob. what a strange one you are, im glad you support BPA (allegedly)and not FCUM, please dont ever apply for membership will you?
You`re off your head !

How does anything of what you quote from Rob constitute him being "off his head"? What is mad is FCUM supporters like you posting nonsense on here. Over the past few days this forum has started to get some reasonable comments so we can do without your like trying to inflame a response because it's your idea of entertainment.

I can assure you there is no hidden agenda, it's just gaulling that BPA fans can moan about a negative response from the T&A when the problem was started by the club. Anyway as BPA fans say fuck off on your own site or have you been banned! |
What i fail to understand is ?
Question: What the hell has it got to do with you, what happens at Bpa ?
Is your life that empty that you have to sit on here drivelling on that quite frankly about something that does not even consern you ?
and please dont swear, like i said you give the others at FC a bad name , now run along Ginger Moggy and play with your school mates.
