Did you read the T&A report on Saturdays match? Apparently Bradford City played a team called Park Avenue, at least I think it was Avenue, the article did refer to 'Avenue' on a couple of occasions.
There were 3 photos accompanying and not one green and white shirt on any of them. The only Avi player to warrent a photo was a partly obscured, postrate goalkeeper and the main feature of the photo was, of course, a City player completing a tap in.
I appreciate that City are now the premier club in Bradford and will always get the lions share of publicity, and thats fair enough. But, what I do not like is biased reporting in a paper that serves all Bradford, not just Manningham.
What was wrong? wouldn't they serve the reporter in tha bar????

I'm not in the know at Avenue but I get the feeling there must have been a breakdown in relations between the T&A and Bradford PA. I have criticiced the Telegraph a lot in the pat but there must be some reason why they have virtually stopped reporting on us. There wasn't anything at all in last night about the Droylsden game which may have contributed to the poor attendence. Nor was there an Avenue perspective in Friday's edition about the derby match. As much as we may feel the Telegraph has let us down in the past its a two way street and we need their support if we are to attract better support in future. Whatever it is that has happened needs clearing up and if that means someone at the club apologising to them for something we have done then thats what we should do. We can not afford to antagonise the local press.

I agree Kev,
Can anybody shed any light on the reasons for, what on the face of it, appears to be an almost boycot of reporting on the Avenue by the T&A.

Parkender & Kev, are you pretending not to know why the T&A might be unhappy with BPA or do you really not know?

Presumably you are assuming the Spain tour was a hoax and that is the reason the T&A are a bit lukewarm at the moment. Surely all that is needed for someone who was there to confirm what Dr Dean is quoted as saying below is correct i.e. 'it was a fantastic tour' etc. If that was not the case surely an apology to the T&A and all the fans that have been deceived would be in order. As it seems to be having implications on our relations with the press either a rebuttal or an admission is surely required now. If it was a joke that got out of hand then the best way forward is to admit it apologise and remove the article from the web site rather than let it remain and let the issue fester.
This posting is still on the club's web site.
From BPA Official web site:-
Avenue march on in Spain
Anything the spanish National side can do ..... Avenue go one better
As part of our celebrations from winning the championship last season, Avenue embarked on a pre season tour of southern Spain.
We warmed up against a Russian/Bulgarian XI that finished a draw. Connors scored for Avenue.
CEO Bob Blackburn commented after thematch that it was a hard game with the Russians showing great footwork, especially around the box.
It was then onto Sotogrande where we played the local team, Soto fc and scored a fantastic 5 2 win with Rory Patterson opening his account and bagging a hat trick, with skipper Steve Connors grabbing 2 ! Avenue unveiled many of their close season signings, but it is fair to say the none made a better impression than Stefan Brookster who controlled the midfield and was deservedly man of the match.
Carl Ruffer arrived late on Saturday to take over management duties from Bob Blackburn and John Dean and was immediately successful with a 2 0 win over FC Benus. Goals from Patterson and our new star, Brookster, resulted in a successful mini tour against tough opposition and director Kevin Hainsworth said "it bodes well for the forthcoming season. Cammy, (Dave Cameron : manager) has made some excellent signings and we are looking forward to the new season with keen anticipation."
Dr Dean commented. "it has been a fantastic tour and certainly opened my eyes to the talent the continentals have and I am very pleased to have got stuck in with this olympian effort of our team"

I agree with your comments Kev. The above reports reads like a spoof to me. Whilst speculation remains about whether or not the tour took place I would fully understand that the T&A might be cold shouldering the club for this reason. A newspaper's reputation is based on the accuracy of it's stories and if they have been misled then an apology is unlikely to be enough to put things right. If the tour did take place as reported then as you say why doesn't someone confirm this (and chop chop before you start slavering on your computer I don't mean you, but someone in responsibility/official).

Maybe there is nothing to this story at all. Maybe Ian Whiting who normally reports on us is on his summer holidays. Just a thought like. News stories on us have only gone sparce since our friendly with Macclesfield or does that coincide with when the Spoof Spain trip (If it is) poop hit the fan?

In contrast to yesterday's report on the Avenue v City match tonight's report in T&A on the Guiseley v City game last night has 5 large colour photos and all 5 contain Guiseley players. If this situation continues Bakes and Lord the shirt sponsors won't be best pleased. The report on last night's match against Droylsden has about 2" of an end column.

Thanks Tim, I'd worked out that they must be those two but wasn't sure which was which.

the spain tour didn't happen, well not as reported anyway. it was a bit of a knees up for about half a dozen players. there's no such teams as soto fc, and the other one you're meant to have played, and rory patterson didn't score a hattrick.
but the telegraph and argus didn't know about this. well, not until today anyways.

Judging by the amount of exposure the club have received in the TandA over the last week or so my guess is they already knew before today. The very last thing a club like Avenue could afford to do is upset their local newspaper. No mention of the Droylsden game in Mondays edition IMO was a telling factor in last nights very poor crowd.

If it is the case that the tour did not take place and I don't one way or the other, I just assumed that it did, then all I can say is that along with the majority of supporters, I do not appreciate being made taken for a ride and lied to by the club I have supported through thick and thin. Further, if it is the case that we have been lied to, then I cannot blame the T&A and believe me, we need the T&A's support.
Now will somebody in officialdom please let us know exactly what happened on this 'tour'.
Whatever you think Bradford and Bradfordians, we do not like the piss being taken at our expense.

i know my word's worth nowt round these parts, but i assure you, there was no tour. we've checked with one of your players, who was said to have scored, and he denies even being there. he was on a family holiday at the time.
i mean, you can check yourselves to a degree - google soto fc, or fc benus, see what comes up.

maybe then Parkender you should make a new post asking a official to confirm or denie if the tour took place or not..
just would make it easy for an official to se your post then it been stuck in "City game report" nothing to do with a "tour"
i personal would be interested in the out come.
