Not a bad game today. I've no idea how strong the City team was so its hard to say whether this was a decent result or a poor one but i thought City looked slightly better than Macclesfield. The scoreline was just about right. Worsnop was caught off his line for the first but made up for it with a couple of good stops later. Rudd scored Avenue's consolation after we went 3-0 down. Once again our best player was Baker and the centre backs played well. My area of concern is left back and right wing though we will have to see Bettney and Graves against similar opposition to ourselves. I thought the centre forward who came on (Towson was it) played well and the right winger (Tandy?) also looked ok. We should get a better idea of the new payers when we play Drolysden and Farsley. All in all we were OK.

We lost 2-0 at Kettering. Crows about 800

Did Rory play?

What was the crowd at your game?

Didn't go myself, but reading the city web site and talking to a few who went, Avenue were very poor and city played their reserves in second half.

I'd estimate the crowd at about 1200.
jakoli
Looked quite a few more than 1200 there to me.City had 6 or 7 1st teamers who played 55-60 mins and then Bower apart it looked a very young side.I would have thought both sides can take positives from the game.Thought Sugden struggled today and was expecting more from Patterson but liked the look of Baker.Still too early to judge people though.

Avenue weren't great but I wasn't too impressed by city. Worsnop should have done better on a couple of the goals. I thought Rudd and Betts played well today but I think some of the players need to start playing better. I know it's pre-season but early games give a good impression of what is to come for the forthcoming sesaon.
The Irish Rover
Thought our defence today was no better than Sunday League stuff. Scrambled clearances and unorganised throughout.
Rudd and Patterson need to be playing together AND be given the service, especially from the wingers. We didn't seem to have any winger of any ability on the park today apart from about 10 mins in the 2nd half when one of the new lads took on the City full back with a darting run. (played on left wing in 2nd half- don't know who it was? - not Bettney).
A few good stops from Spider to keep us in with a chance but Rudd's late goal was never going to be enough. sad.gif

Will no doubt be portrayed as negative by some on here and be told that we were playing a better team, divisions above us, ........blah blah blah.......yada, yada, yada,....... but even when Avenue had the ball we looked unsettled.
Anyway i don't care, that's my opinion and i'm entitled to it. tongue.gif

When/if this team gels we will be unstoppable but i won't be putting my pension fund on at the bookies just yet.

MOM for Ave? Baker for me.

No Bob today? wanted to ask him about Phoenix Park seeing as he won't answer questions on here. Was he on a post-pre-season tour in espana?

Rob. wacko.gif

ps. thanks for the lift G. - see you next saturday.

Would wait until just before xmas before backing ave.

If we are in the top 8 by then we'll have a chance, looks like this team will need to gel.

I've not come to gloat dry.gif Serious though I thought in spells you looked quite a decent side today. Don't be to hard on yourselves! You played some decent stuff down the channels at times that if the killer ball had been delivered we would have been punished. Our first goal came from nowhere and to be honest up until then there had been nothing in it. Had you not conceded early on in the second half it might have been a different game all together

Number 10 was your best player for me by a country mile. Haven't a clue who he was! It said Patterson in the programme which I knew it wasn't so I asked one of your lot at half time and he didn't know either wacko.gif He caused us a few problems and come close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

Good sized crowd and good natured too! I hope the fixture will crop up next year

Billy, The number 10 was Stuart Rudd Ex Sheffield Utd Ex FCUM Last season, so your thoughts now Billy ? are we still a pub team or have we grown pubes ? and more to the point would you part with £6 to watch us when City are playing away ?

Cheers Sir Chopchop. He will cause some damage for you lot this season! He wouldn't have looked out of place partnering Thorne up front for us lot today. Far better than Patterson although he showed some good touches also.

I've never called you a pub team have I chopchop ohmy.gif I may part with a fiver on Monday night wink.gif

Dont know which game anyone was watching no.10 was who,dr who TOM BAKER,our best player by a mile,Citys no.10 Peter Thorne was different class,if he is kept fit hes a cert to be the league 2 top scorer,.
I thought Patterson didnt look interested, his body language was SH**.
Sugden was as slow as my gran.
Bettney looked like hed 2 left feet,or was that 2 right feet,I dont think he got the ball under control at all.
Connors was, well he was Connors, you know what you will get from him.
Rudd was impressive when he came in 2nd half,a couple of decent efforts and was on hand to tap in the fumbled save.
Bett ran well down the right.
Haran and Ruffer struggled but they wont be up against a Peter Thorne every week.
Hockenhull was steady as usual.
Worsnop can do better.
Worried of Guildford
I though No 10 was Tom Baker and Stuart Rudd was no 12. But I could be wrong. Disappointingly, nobody announced the substitutions.

The crowd looked like 1600+ to me and it was great to see so much green and white. If Manningham did outnumber us, it was by no more than 3 to 2.

To be honest, I was disappointed to lose the game - all 3 goals came from individual mistakes. We got away with defensive lapses most weeks in NPL-1N, we won't in NPL-P.

And as for Manningham putting out their reserve team in the second half - Avenue made at least 6 changes as well. But to be honest, our 2nd half forward line looked better than the 1st.

But it's early days. We hardly won a game last season in PSFs, but we won the championship.

No particular bragging rights for either side - it was a "par" result.
TSSB
Not sure regarding the attendance, but a canny enough atmosphere among all the fans, and a pretty good result.
I was impressed with the stuart rudd though, likes to put him self about a bit (did he get the goal for BPA) and although i do not know the division or your opponents for the forthcoming season, he certainly looks usefull
Boring Stan
Correct Johnxl, Tom Baker was number 10 and buy far the best player in green and white. Patterson started well first ten or so minutes then seemed to drift out of the game. The first goal was a gift as the entire back line fell asleep! We may of got away with it had it been a league game but when a chance like that falls to the the likes of Peter Thorne its bread and butter.

It was a pity it was already three nil until we started to make a game of it and by then it was too late. Some nice build up play at times but the killer ball was lacking. Having played two league teams Droylsden will be more of a match on Monday night and will give us a clearer indication of what next season beholds. Hopefully the likes of Patterson will shine and show us what they are made of.

.....don't know which game YOU were watching Chopmeister?
You are obviously such a big fan of the Avenue - you can't even tell the difference between Rudd and Baker! Or is it just the fact that you are an illiterate inbred and can read numbers on the players shirts? tongue.gif

I notice that the Spain tour debarcle is still unanswered and the club's official website still carries the article about the games that never happened against teams that don't exist. wacko.gif

Keep the posts coming chop chop/Bob, they add a touch of humour to an otherwise dull day.

ps......... i didn't forget to ad "nob...nob...nob" to my post - i just thought i'd let you add that bit with your usual guff. laugh.gif
