Here's one for you lot!
What's the only TOWN in Britain to have 3 league football teams. |
To reply to the one about the only UK town to have had 3 football teams -
Burton on trent is the only one to have had 3 teams but no longer has any (Burton Swifts, Wanderers & United)
Accrington has had 3 league teams - founder football league members Accrington FC and then 2 Stanley teams.
Which northern town has had 2 football league teams but no longer has any ??
mmmm. without resorting to google or wiki i can think of two so i must be wrong about at least one?
south shields and/or new brighton?

sorry mate - but stenhousemuir, whilst having a falkirk postcode, is fiercely NOT in falkirk.
Bit like saying keighley is in bradford - not something you'd do in keighley and live to tell the tale!
....and burton definitely had 3...

Aye lad, it were New Brighton !
(New Brighton Tower & New Brighton FC)
Next question,
Which Keighley based side will win promotion to the Unibond this year, as well as winning the FA Vase with a string of 10-0 victories, and will then go on to lift the FA Cup with a 9-0 defeat of Chelsea in the final*

Only two English or Scottish league clubs have ever amalgamated at a time when both were league members. What were the names of the original clubs and what is the name of the amalgamated club?

No - these clubs amagamated before they were in the league. I am looking for 2 clubs who amalgamated while BOTH were in either the English or Scottish leagues.

In Scotland- Ayr and Ayr Parkhouse merged several eons ago.
Without checking, I'm sure it's never happened in England - although Burton United were a merger of one Burton club who were in the league at the time & one that had lost its place a couple of seasons earlier.

Well done that man - it was indeed Ayr and Ayr Parkhouse.
Largest town without a passenger railway staion? Corby claims to be the largest town in Europe without one, but places liker Dubrovnik and Reykjavik must run it close. Corby will get a station in the near future as the first sod has now been cut.

Not much chance of Reykjavik getting one though. Not a single railway in Iceland !!

On the subject of ground names, here are some obscure European grounds I've visited over the years, see if you can get these.
Stade Geoffroy Guichard
Marakana
Lluis Companys
Stadio Renzo Barbera
Stade Constant Vanden Stock

They did, but one of them had lost their league status a few years earlier by the time they merged.
Glossop is in Derbyshire, must be them

Small world - I saw Valur play Fram a few years ago at a little ground adjacent to the National stadium with everybody crammed into one tiny shed as it was chucking it down. I also saw KR vs KA.
I can also claim the Constant vanden Stock (twice + one postponement) but prefer their local rivals, formerly known as Racing White and Daring of Molenbeek.
