Full Version: How confident?

How confident is everyone that Avenue will progress to the 4th qualifying round and hopefully get a big draw against an Oxford or Luton? I think they have about a 66% chance.

66.66 recurring would be my estimate as well Steve but I like to round it up so I'll say 67%. Could this be the new guess the gate? ....but how would we know who's won?

I'm confident as long as some of the players who were injured or picked up knocks against Buxton are fit for monday. We commanded the game until Knowles had to come off with what I have been told was fatigue after being ill all week. Also, O'Brien had to come off with injury.

Why would we want to play a hard game against Luton or Oxford rather than a side our level or 1 above which would give us a better chance of reaching the 1st round?

I agree with your last sentence. A First Round match against Bradford City or Leeds United far outshines Luton or Oxford; but let's get the job done tomorrow night first.

A home tie against a Luton or Oxford is guaranteed income and a high profile fixture, if we get drawn against someone like Guisley or Kendall the game could go either way and then you are not guaranteed to play a glamorous side in the first round, yes the first round is the best option but don't be disappointed with a high profile ex-league conference team at home. Saying that FC Halifax would be good?
Steampigs
On current form Halifax would beat us (easily).

I'm not that confident because we concede too many goals. We shouldn't have drawn yesterday after we were leading 2-0. To concede so quickly after scoring ourselves was a big blow. The team need to improve their concentration. Out of 14 league and cup games this season we have only had 2 clean sheets. The majority of the goals we have conceded have been scored in the second half. When we have been in a comfortable winning positions we tend to switch off and let the opposition score e.g. in the FC Utd and Matlock games. I hope we can get things right tomorrow and put in a good performance otherwise it will be good bye to the FA Cup.

Oxford or Luton won't happen as the 4th qualifying round is regionalized. The best (or worst) we could hope for is Wrexham, York, Mansfield or Chester. But I'd settle for Salford.

Confidence in this current squad......................... don't make me laugh. laugh.gif

As soon as we scored the second goal yesterday we should immediately have shut up shop and defended the two goal lead in the final half hour. Unfortunately one thing we can't do is defend for toffee. You always sensed there was going to be a Buxton goal as soon as the game kicked off as we simply haven't got a clean sheet in us. We only have ourselves to blame for not having a place in the final qualifying round and the chance of a lucrative tie against the likes of Wrexham or York. Even better would be a easy draw and with it a passage into the first round proper and an even better chance of a lucrative tie against the like of Leeds, Charlton, Southampton or even Norwich.

They will be on their uppers tomorrow night after fighting there way back into the game after looking dead and buried all be it for a minute! If its the same Avenue team which turned up against Burscough last Monday then I'm afraid we are out of the cup. If its the same team which defeated Matlock the other Saturday then we may well stand a chance of getting through. The problem with Avenue these days is that we are far to inconsistent and you never quite know which one is going to turn up. The team which can't defend and can't score or the team which can't defend but can score.

One thing is for sure i would not like to play Halifax, there defence is very solid, not conceding one goal yet in the FAC.
